Among all auto immune diseases the importance of vitiligo is way ahead. It is a social disease due to appearance of white patches over the skin. Apparently, patches appear silently without any warning or symptom in vitiligo.
Auto immune connection is well known in vitiligo. Behind reason could be abrupt food behaviour, ignorance of a white patch, excess intake of vitamin c, hypothyroidism.
There are certain items which come under restrict diet in vitiligo.
1. VITAMIN C- generally is found in citrus food like oranges, grapes, pomegranate, etc. Vitamin C has a nature to slow down pigmentation rate. Thus, it is not recommended to take vitamin c in vitiligo condition.
2. Fermented items- Curd, Lassi, bread, south Indian foods itmes like idli, dosa etc, are made after fermentation process. These also contains yeast. Consuming these in vitiligo can lead to hypopigmentation. So, these should be restricted in vitiligo.
3. Pungent vegetables/ fruits- Raw onion, raw garlic kind of food items which contain high sulfur. Consuming these may result into fading of melanin. These should also be restricted in vitiligo condition.
4. Junk food- Fastly prepared food like fast food, street food should not be taken in vitiligo condition. Regular intake of these could cause vitiligo spreading. These kind of fast food could contain harmful chemical which may have bad effect on immune system if used in regular basis.
5. Fish and RED MEAT- Normally intake of fish and milk together is restricted in auto immune disease like vitiligo. These substances, if taken regularly can lead to massive spreading in vitiligo as experienced in so many cases. Similarly, non-vegetarian product like red meat also can aggravate vitiligo in most of the conditions.
6. Combination of non-vegetarian food + milk - Animal protein + milk protein in combination produce unique substances which if taken regularly can lead to auto immune trigger disease like vitiligo
Food restriction is responsible for vitiligo spreading as seen in many cases. Normally in ayurvedic i treatment these kinds of restrictions are advised by a vitiligo specialist. In modern medical science there is no such kind of restrictions advised. But as per ayurvedic texts like, charak Samhita. These are being recommended from more than 5000 years. IN ayurvedic treatment for vitiligo treatment is highly effective but condition of food restriction is equally important.

Q. Is an Ayurvedic diet restrictions effective for vitiligo?
A. Ayurvedic diets aim to balance body systems and may complement treatment, in most of the cases it helps to control vitiligo spreading.
Q. Does fasting help in vitiligo treatment?
A. In some cases it may help. There is no scientific evidence that fasting improves vitiligo. In fact, extreme fasting may weaken immunity if not done properly.
Q. Can junk food worsen vitiligo?
A. While not directly causing vitiligo, junk food can increase inflammation and weaken immunity due to chemicals present in it, which may negatively impact overall skin health.
Q. Is gluten-free diet helpful for vitiligo?
A. A gluten-free diet may help only if the patient has gluten sensitivity or celiac disease. Otherwise, it is not universally required.
Q.. Should children with vitiligo follow strict diets?
A. Yes, but milk is allowed as children need balanced nutrition for growth.
